WHY OUT TO SEE
Why patients choose Out To See
Out To See isn't a chain, a clinic, or a discount counter at a department store. It's an independent optometry practice run by a husband and wife who actually live in Kailua — built for the kind of eye care our community deserves.
1
Comprehensive care, in one visit
Your eye-health exam, glasses prescription, contact lens prescription, and frame fitting all happen in one appointment. No bouncing between offices, no separate visits for the little stuff. Plan for 45–60 minutes and walk out with everything sorted.
2
A boutique that’s actually curated
We carry Maui Jim, Lindberg, Moscot, Krewe, Etnia Barcelona, Mykita, Tom Ford, and more — frames we actually believe in, fit by people who know how each one wears in Hawaii’s climate.
3
Independent. Local. Built for Windward Oahu.
Out To See is family-owned and operated, right here in Kailua. Dr. Lauren Mordue handles the eye care. Her husband Brian runs the business side. When you call us, you’re talking to one of us — not a call center on the mainland.
Meet your eye doctor
Dr. Lauren Mordue, OD
Dr. Mordue is the optometrist behind every visit at Out To See. She earned her Doctor of Optometry degree from New England College of Optometry, in Boston, MA in 2017 and has been caring for patients on Oahu ever since.
She’s passionate about helping people see and strives to make every exam feel relaxed, attentive, and grounded in both kindness and precision.
“My job isn’t to push you toward an upsell — it’s to figure out what your eyes actually need and what’s going to work for the way you live. That takes a real conversation, not a 15-minute checklist.”— Dr. Lauren Mordue, OD
When she’s not at the office, you’ll find her on the beach with her husband and 2 young boys, cooking up something new in the kitchen, or watching a new film during movie night, with her family. ABOUT DR. MORDUE
Out To See is family-owned and operated. Dr. Mordue handles the eye care; her husband Brian Moore handles operations, marketing, and media.

Judith Green — “Their professionalism, creativity, and calm under pressure were impressive.” ★★★★★
Yesterday we had eye exams and eyewear fittings with Dr. Lauren and Cory, and despite an unexpected fire alarm and power outage that lasted nearly 20 minutes, her team delivered truly outstanding care. Instead of sending us home, they adapted on the fly — using old-school techniques like a traditional eye chart for my husband's contact lenses, and for me, Dr. Lauren and her assistant carefully measured my vision using nontraditional methods with only natural daylight. Eventually power returned and she finished the exam. Their professionalism, creativity, and calm under pressure were impressive… Their service went above and beyond, and they are cool people, too!
Liz Eh — "I need an appointment now and my doctor is booked" ★★★★★
I had the best first time experience!! I needed to renew my contacts. Scripts expired. My doctor couldn't see me for another month! Went to Out to See the next day. I felt my exam was way more thorough than what I usually get. I got me contacts and new eye glass prescriptions. Recently picked up my eye glasses and I love them! Absolutely and positively 10‑10 recommend!
Rex Cornair — "I've had a bad experience elsewhere" ★★★★★)
I had a lens replacement that went bad and caused significant nerve damage in my left eye. I was referred to another Optometrist in Kailua and the horror story continued… Then it lead me to try Out To See. Wow. Dr. M and her staff are amazing. She spent over 2 hours with me, testing, fitting and explaining my condition. She fitted me with glasses but also contacts and it changed my world. Literally. They are so much more than just a place to get your glasses. To say I highly recommend Dr M and all at Out to See is an understatement. Give them a try, you won't be sorry.

A lot more than the basic chart and prescription exam you may be used to. Every comprehensive exam at
OUT TO SEE includes:
• Visual acuity testing (the eye chart)
• Pupil and eye muscle evaluation
• Peripheral (side) vision check
• Digital prescription testing
• Eye pressure measurement (glaucoma screening)
• Microscope evaluation of the front of the eye (eyelids, cornea, iris, lens)
• Optomap widefield retinal imaging — a wide angle photo of the back of your eye that catches
retinal disease, diabetes, hypertension, and more
• OCT scanning of your macula and optic nerve
• Corneal topography measurement
What you won't get: surprise upcharges for "premium" tests, or pressure to skip dilation just to save money.
Everything that's standard of care is included.

Out to See is a licensed optometry practice. Dr. Lauren Mordue is a Doctor of Optometry (OD), trained at the New England College of Optometry in Boston. She's licensed to perform comprehensive eye exams, diagnose and manage most eye conditions, prescribe glasses and contact lenses, and provide medical eye care for issues like dry eye, eye infections, and red eye exams.
If you have a condition that requires surgery or specialty care (cataract removal, LASIK, retinal surgery), Dr. Mordue will refer you to a trusted ophthalmologist on Oahu and coordinate your care.
Quick reference: an optometrist (OD) handles your day to day eye health, prescriptions, and most medical eye care. An ophthalmologist (MD) is a medical doctor who also performs eye surgery. Most people see an optometrist for routine and even most medical eye care; you will need an ophthalmologist for surgical situations.
